Well, our new baby, Preston Charles arrived April 23rd at roughly 8AM. Showed up perfectly healthy and without incident.

Have to say the household is definitely pure chaos at the moment, between Preston and Jaydon. Hoping things will calm down eventually.

Don’t know how people can do this repeatedly, its insane. Takes an amazing amount of patience.

HellGate London

So I just picked up HellGate London by Flagship Studios & published by EA (Electronic Arts).
It is basically Diablo II w/ upgraded graphics and sound and set in a post apocalyptic world, specifically London, England.

I'm pretty sure this game was developed to consume your soul, it is THAT addictive. While there are a mountain of glaringly obvious software bugs and it is apparent that the game was released far from finished, the game play gets to you in such a way that you just tend to work around them.

The only thing i'm not sure about is the subscription method. It is basically an MMO, that you don't have to pay for, unless you want the "advanced features," then it requires a subscription. I have too many things to pay for right now, so I haven't broken down to buy it, but we'll see after my first run through of the game.

ToorCon IOOI (Complete)

ToorCon 9 is over. All in all it was a bad ass conference, Sunday was definitely the best day. Though the 20 minute pace was a little too fast for some of the talks, it was overall fun and informative. I think possibly a little more time in between the talks might be better for next year, as there was quite a few technical problems that cropped up; getting a massive variation of laptops to work with the projectors, having enough time to setup demo's and deal with little issues that always seemed to happen, etc.

We would have gone to the "Super Secret After Party TM." but we have to be up and out the door of our hotel at 6AM. We also both have to work in the morning.

Goodbye to San Diego for now, hopefully we'll be back next year. We learned A TON and definitely have some ideas for some cool stuff to do throughout this year.

ToorCon IOOI

Hacker Conference in San Diego

EvilJeremy and myself (Maeltor for the un-initiated) are here in San Diego attending ToorCon IOOI (ToorCon 9). It's our first Security Conference, hopefully we'll be back for more; maybe a trip to Defcon perhaps?

For those not in the new, ToorCon and its sister con's are hacker conferences where groups of security minded people get together to discuss exploits and hacking (hardware and software) as well as computer/network security issues in general. Talks this year include things like VoIP Penetration Testing and CDMA hacking, also uses of the metasploit framework.

So far its badass. The party tonight was off the fucking hook; good music, free alcohol, and gorgeous dancers (hottest ass i've ever seen this up close).

Can't wait till tomorrow. Today was the long talks and the keynotes. Lots of conceptual stuff over my head still but I'll learn. Tomorrow are the short talks geared to more hands on topics.

Couple of cool announcements today:

My good friend Travis Shofner and his running mate Humberto Cerrillo have won the ASUI executive election in a landslide victory. You can read a small blurb about it at the student newspaper of the University of Idaho, The Argonaut. Congratulations and Good Luck!

On a more personal note, things are heating up around here, and not the temperature. We [my company] were able to secure at least the beginnings of a lucrative partnership last night and hopefully the positive discussions continue.

I've started work on the managed security product offering as well as the new company website. I'll hopefully publish some initial diagrams soon.

I'm also going to move this site off of Blogspots network and onto my own server, just for more fine tuned controls and tighter integration with some of my other website offerings.
Look for that in the next month or so.

Sparse Postage...

I know my posts have been sparse lately. Getting a new company going takes a long time and a lot of work but we are making progress I think.

We have spent a lot of money in the past few days but we have picked up a few new clients (always a plus!!). We have 4 servers ready to rack, an uber powerful APC UPS and a kickass laser printer just to name a few things :)

Its done...

All the layoffs and reorganization at IDACOMM are complete. It was shocking and almost entirely unneccessary in the execution.

Its obvious the company has no plans at retaining itself and is looking for nothing more than selling off to the highest bidder.

Now that I've put in my resignation and signed my offer letter with NetCentral, I am safe with letting it known who i worked for.

I'm furious with the decisions that were made, all the work i've done to help this company along is now completely thrown under the rug and i'm starting fresh under someone I have no experience with.

I'm officially resigning Monday morning at 9AM sharp. If they keep me for the two weeks, sweet, if not oh well.

I start my new job Oct 27 at 9AM.

Wow...BSU is a horrible road team this season. We're getting owned completely against Hawaii...HAWAII, of all teams.

I'm working on some writing this week, then i'm going to setup a section of the blog for misc writings by me and (hopefully) my writing mentor, Travis Shofner. Travis and I used to work together, live in the same apt, and we started Boiseblogs together. Now he [I believe] is a Senator with the student government at U of I. He is an incredible writer and a mind attuned to political science like i've never seen.

Little update on the new job. We are going to order our gear this week so its there when I get in. Hopefully I get what I want. Its not too expensive so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
On another note I have to travel again this week. I'm not completely keen to it as I don't have a lot of money to do it.

I'm so annoyed right now. This week is dragging way too long, I'm afraid the enter month of October is going to be the same way.

I hope the new company calls, and says its time. I've got my resignation letter ready to go, I just need to put it on their desk.

At this point, I don't care if things go bad in 3 months, 6 months, etc. I just want out and i'm ready to take whatever risk they want me to take.

Damn I speak too damn soon....

Looks like some stuff is really starting to change around here, and I might not be leaving right off the bat. There is a lot of talking going on, so i'm not going to read too much into it, but I hate being in this feeling of uncertainty. It just leaves me with a sick feeling to my stomach. I don't like it at all.

Wow, I dont even know why i'm writing this, no one is reading this damn blog but me.

I need to get my links and my templates setup. Its fairly plain (was looking for a better word, but can't figure out how to spell whats in my head) right now.

Monday night...
I had all weekend to comtemplate the events of late last week.

I've decided to take the risk and move on, leave the stability of my current job with one that offers more happiness and freedom, more decision making ability, and a general feeling of wanting to wake up in the morning. I haven't had that in a long time.

On the other hand its possible this thing may fold if not executed correctly, but thats what i'm there for, to help execute it properly and make sure our product is where it needs to be...

I haven't left my old job yet, so I can't divulge where i work or where i'm going, but soon it won't matter any more and i'll let it be known to the world...

Hi Everyone. First Post.

Into the Void is my personal musings, trials and tribulations, etc etc. Lots of times I just rant/ramble on something that is irking me. I tend to think of myself as a passionate person, and am usually a compassionate person as well.

I like to maintain the delusion that I am a decent writer so i'll post those from time to time as well.

Eventually I'll move this blog off to my own space. I used to run Boiseblogs.com, a multi user blogging portal for people in Idaho and surrounding areas, but we ran out of money for hosting and the whole experience just kind of soured me a bit.

Hopefully this is a bit more positive.
